Oatman

Incorporated: 1806

Population: 98 (2023)

The smallest town on our journey, Oatman is known for one thing – burros! Originally built for mining, Oatman has become a ghost town with daily performances, nicknacks and burros that were released once they were no longer needed by miners.

The farthest from Interstate 40

Oatman was completely abandoned when Interstate 40 was built. This is the farthest location from I-40 that we will be traveling. It was part of the first alignment of Route 66 in 1926, making it a perfect location to celebrate on the cusp of the centennial!
